O como e o porquê

" it seems intuitively obvious that to explain biology means to reduce it to chemistry, to explain chemistry is to reduce it to physics, to explain physics is to reduce it to mathematics.
But them comes the quandary of an explanation of mathematics in terms of psychology.
The development of mathematical understanding arises as a subdiscipline inside cognitive development, and the psychology of mathematical insight is explained in the psychological subdiscipline of cognition.
While much of modern science is reductionist, that line of reasoning forgets the value of upper-level context.
Meaning and explaining the “why” of a phenomenon, come from the context.
The lower-level mechanics, the “how” of the phenomenon, have nothing to say about “why”."
